In 1870, the High School we girls went to was established under the name of St Joseph's Ladies College. I can't find the exact date, but during the late 1960's, while we were there, the name was changed to St Joseph's High School. This was to publically shift the impression that we were being educated as women, to be refined, polite and well spoken to one that would more accurately reflect that we were being educated to take our place in a modern world. In the community, however, we still occasionally hear the old school referred to as St Joseph's Ladies College.

I just wanted to remind everyone that July 19th 2025 is the 50th Anniversary of the tragic passing of Yenschy (Peter Yensch) in an explosion at Australian Iron & Steel, Port Kembla Wollongong. Mick Robinson and I were deeply affected by this having worked with him and saw him almost every day from the time he arrived in Wollongong in January 1974 ( I remember being out the fromt of the Hostel when I saw this familiar hunched over figure walking down the driveway.)
Sadly missed and keep it in mind for July 15 and have a few beers for Yenschy
